To be or not to be

Today I had my old music acquaintance come up to me  at the pub with an interesting proposition. He would like to perform with his band including a female singer but he would also like all the other muscians kicked out as they don’t fall into the required commercial musicians category required to bring in the same punters. He would do the radio hits, top 40 and evergreens in different languages too. He would like to play from Thursday to Friday.  He would bring along his supporters and see if he can really build the venue up. He knows I am barely breaking even at the moment.  He will even throw in two sexy waitresses. Jazz and Bits is probably the most beautiful pub and music venue in Ipoh.  The owner of the building is constantly being offered to rent out the venue to other would be pub owners.

Coming back to the music acquaintance, I simply cannot let all my other musicians go, they practice hard and put on the best possible show.  Ipoh has one inherent problem, real music fans don’t go out to pubs and music venues, some are still in hiding or most often cannot afford the cost of the booze. Every pub here plays the same R&B and top 40 hits. Punters in this town who have the means to entertain themelves in the night scene are looking for more than intelligent live music, the guys are most often looking for ‘girls’ and very familiar tunes. Ipoh is certainly still a cultural desert, saying that some fantastic classical pianist have come out from this town. Ipoh is generally filled with karaoke venues and few clubs playing R&B tunes and the same old live music.

Anyway today I have worked out a more practical payment scheme for the musicians that will be more of an advantage to the both parties,  I now have to sell this to them. One of the bands like the idea, I will sell it on.
